David Petersen is a behavioral consultant and drug interventionist in Colorado Springs. His practice began 25 years ago in San Antonio, Texas. His academic and clinical credentials include graduate degrees in social work and health administration, and licenses in clinical social work and addictions counseling. He is also credentialed in pastoral ministry and is an educator in outdoor (Leave No Trace®) ethics.
David’s clinical experience began working in interventions and addictions treatment in the late 1980’s, primarily in the criminal justice and community mental health arena. His practice has expanded over the past 25 years into direct clinical, consulting and community development work. He has provided clinical expertise as a drug intervention specialist to residents of Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas with psychosocial intervention and support for children & families, crisis intervention, drug intervention, and mental health care in medical care sectors.
Over many recent years, David has provided urgent behavioral & pastoral care to a large hospice organization with inpatient, home care & long-term care services. In addition, his practice has extended into clinical team programming with teens & young adults in intensive outpatient care. The majority of David’s more recent practice has been consultation designing, staffing and implementing clinical programming in both secular and pastoral human service organizations.
David Petersen has taught workshops & made presentations over the span of his career as an intervention specialist in Colorado Springs and elsewhere in the following settings & roles: (1) community, undergraduate & graduate classes (speaker), (2) community-based institutes for addictions counseling (instructor) and (3) conferences (presenter). His topics have included (1) addictions diagnosis & treatment, (2) spirituality, (3) family recovery dynamics, (4) burnout & compassion fatigue, (5) engaging resistant consumers, (6) therapeutic community techniques (7) health-related quality of life and others. David is also an adjunct instructor with Pikes Peak Community College’s Social Work certificate & degree programs.
David now resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife and teen-aged daughter. He maintains a private practice working predominantly in hospitals, alongside behavioral pediatric and crisis intervention work.
